A roof replacement is the largest single job most property owners will ever commission. We survey before we price, so the quote you get is the price you pay.
Roof replacements are one of our specialities, and they are the job where getting a straight answer matters most. Most people asking about a re-roof have already been told two different things by two different contractors — that it needs a full strip, or that a few tiles will do.

The honest answer depends on what is under the covering. A roof with sound timbers and a failed membrane is a different job to one where the battens have rotted, and only one of those needs a full replacement. We look before we quote, and if a repair will genuinely see you right for another ten years, we will tell you that instead.
What a full replacement involves
A full re-roof means stripping the existing covering back to the rafters, replacing the felt or membrane and the battens, and re-covering — usually in tile or slate to match, unless you want to change it. Flashings, valleys and ridges are renewed at the same time, because they are the parts that fail first and there is no sense leaving them under a new roof.

Commercial roofs
On commercial property the pressure is usually to keep the building operating while the work happens. We phase larger roofs so that only part of the building is affected at a time, and we work around opening hours where we can.

Frequently asked questions
Does my roof actually need replacing, or can it be repaired?
That depends on the condition of the battens, membrane and timbers underneath, not just the tiles you can see. We survey first and tell you honestly. If a repair will hold for years, we will quote for the repair.
How long does a re-roof take?
A typical domestic pitched roof is three to five working days once the scaffold is up, weather permitting. Larger or more complex roofs take longer, and we will give you the expected duration in the quote.
Is scaffolding included in the price?
Yes. Scaffold, waste removal and making good are all in the quoted figure. We would rather quote the whole job than surprise you with extras.
Do you work on listed buildings?
Yes. Much of Dorset’s older housing stock is listed or in a conservation area, and the covering usually has to match what was there. We will tell you where listed building consent is likely to be needed before you commit to anything.
